This is a service that has taken Marutham into the kitchens. Over 70% of the company members participate in this activity. The company does bulk purchase of certain essential provision items like pulses for home consumption. Due to the volumes, they are able to negotiate lower prices with the wholesalers, than the smaller traders at the village market. Thus, they are able to short circuit the supply chain.
However, here again, the main selling point would not be the price difference, but the insistence on quality and reliability the company has been able to build for its products. People do not mind paying a little above the prevailing market rates, provided the quality is proportionately better.
This is a yearlong activity and ensures continuous rotation and daily visibility to the company in everyone’s homes. The company looks to expand the number of items available for sale under this activity. To increase its reach, there are plans to have packaged ‘Marutham Kits’ consisting of a basket of essential provisions for a month, packed in a Marutham label which would be sold to members.
The Deepavali Gift Pack
More recently during the festival of Deepavali during this year Marutham put together a special package of provisions. This included – pulses and grains (Tur dal, Urad dal, Moong dal), Red gram, Sugar, Jaggery, Cooking oil, a mixture of spices (Pepper, Cumin, Fenugreek, Mustard and Turmeric powder), Semolina, Sabudan, Cardamom, Cashew, Raisins and Pooja items.
The provisions were packaged in a cloth bag with the company logo and made available to the members at ₹790/- (Rupees Seven hundred and ninety only). It was estimated that the savings on each bag was about ₹100/- (Rupees One hundred only) besides which the quality of the product was also guaranteed. The company has made it a point to regularly undertake several such activities which besides the economic value also underline and reiterate a sense of belonging to the community among the members.
